A union may not regulate the contents of campaign literature it is asked to distribute and may not require that it be permitted to read the literature before distribution. The union may not censor campaign literature in any way, even if the literature includes derogatory remarks about other candidates. A union’s contention that mailing certain campaign literature may constitute libel does not justify a refusal to distribute the literature since the union is under a legal duty to distribute the material.
Officer Candidate Biography
My name is Javier Rodriguez, BSN and I am a seeking re-election to the office of President for UNAC/UHCP South Bay.
I am an experienced leader, having served President for the last 2 years and Vice President the 2 years prior. As president, I continuously challenge Administration and Management to abide by the contract and fight for what is right. Since 2014, I have helped build a team that has a voice in every committee at South Bay that impacts UNAC/UHCP members. Under my leadership, South Bay has been at the forefront of other affiliates for safe staffing ratios, membership engagement, Just Culture, and is the example for how Labor and Management Partnership should be modeled. Lastly, I am proud to have tirelessly worked on this year’s bargaining team which secured raises for the next 3 years, preserved our pension, medical and retiree and health benefits, and cemented ratios in the contract.
Please allow me the honor to serve you as President for the next 2 years.
