Jaqueline Araujo
United Pharmacists of Southern California

Hello, my name is Jaqueline Araujo and I am currently a per diem Outpatient pharmacist in Downey. Although due to the pandemic there was no official celebration this year, I am still ever so happy to have reached my 10 year anniversary with Kaiser this April. From volunteer to assistant to intern to pharmacist, it’s been a most rewarding journey.

I became a pharmacist in 2015 and accepted a position in NorCal to help launch Epims that year. In 2017, I became a union steward for the Guild pharmacist union and enjoyed learning about the contract helping inform my coworker’s of updates or guide them to answers for questions and concerns. I helped represent fellow colleagues in correctional action meetings, most often addressing DFI’s, attendance, and performance. Before transferring back to SoCal last year in 2019, I was passionately involved as a steward coordinating between management and pharmacists a new schedule draft.

The new opportunities to participate and become involved again have given me hope to resume my effort with helping my fellow pharmacists, managers, and Kaiser. I believe in Kaiser’s 5 stars, and that together, we can all ensure it continues its unbeatable legacy— to thrive.

Tessa Hartfield
Kaiser Permanente Midwives and Wound Ostomy Nurses

I’d like to start by introducing myself. My name is Tessa Hartfield. I work at Kaiser Orange County as a Certified Nurse Midwife. I have worked for Kaiser for 16 years. I started my Kaiser journey as a RN In labor and delivery. This was my first job in an union shop. I have worked in several other hospitals where there was not a union. Honestly, It didn’t take me long to realize how much the union made a difference. I almost immediately witnessed the many benefits of belonging to a union. It wasn’t just our staffing ratios, wages, pay raises and benefits (although that in itself is so incredible) I also noticed how our union safe guarded jobs, fought for legislature and represented members during difficult times with management.

I believe in our union. United, we can conquer so much. We are powerful together! We are unstoppable! We are that blue wave that is always noticed and respected! We are the union! Together, we will continue to accomplish and tackle all of our goals and obstacles. I am so very thankful to have an opportunity to run for office. I would be honored to be your KPMWON President.

Karla Hill
Kaiser Permanente Midwives and Wound Ostomy Nurses

I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up in Milwaukee, I experienced women in my community avoiding medical care due to fear, lack of knowledge, or lack of resources in the community. Additionally, I remember seeing women across their lifespan unable to afford routine health care screening services. Even at this early age, a desire began to grow in me to help these women. The compassion I felt from those personal experiences led me to pursue a career in nursing and midwifery.

I graduated for Wright State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. After attaining my BSN, I worked as a volunteer nurse with the American Red Cross and a labor and delivery for several years before for deciding to pursue a career as a nurse-midwife. I am a proud 2016 graduate of Georgetown University’s Midwifery/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program. I currently work as Certified Nurse-Midwife at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center. I am also volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America.

In my free time, I love to spend time with my husband and two children. We love to travel, shop, try new foods, and watch movies.

Lacy Lawrence

My Name is Lacy Lawrence and I am running for Associate Affiliate. I started my nursing career with Kaiser Permanente in 2009 on the Medical-Surgical Orthopedic floor. In 2014 I transferred to the Paranesthesia Department at Zion and came to SDMC when it first opened. Over the last 3 to 4 years I have found myself becoming more involved in our union by becoming a Union Steward. In that time helping to support other UNAC/UHCP members in our everchanging work environment, speaking up for safety, and just being a person our members can come to for assistance, I have truly found my passion. Not only as a nurse for our patients, but as an advocate for my fellow nurses.

Jessica Mena
United Therapists of Southern California

I want to start off by expressing my gratitude to my fellow colleagues for nominating me and placing trust in my ability to represent all of us this upcoming year. I have been apart of the Kaiser family since 2016. I started off as a per diem physical therapist, then as an Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Resident, Sports Fellow, and now as a full time Physical Therapist with my specialty in Orthopaedics. I am a back up Senior on weekends and during this covid pandemic became project manager for a regional Covid-19 Remote Patient Monitoring Program.

Physical therapy clinicians have proven time and time again to being pivotal to caring and assisting patients return of functional lives. Our specialties range from neuro, orthopaedics, pediatrics, female health care/ male pelvic health, sports, vestibular, to geriatrics. Thus, it is evidently clear that we must continue to collaborate and advocate for our practice, our colleagues, and make sure there is more transparency to conversations about equitable pay, benefits, reasonable and fair workloads in order to continue to provide high quality care to our patients.

I am driven to represent our profession and protect our clinicians thoroughly and collaboratively. Together we can do so much.

Rebecca Myung
United Pharmacists of Southern California

My name is Rebecca Myung and I am running for Steward Coordinator North. I am currently an outpatient pharmacist at the Cudahy Pharmacy in the Downey Service Area. I have served as a steward since the inception of the steward program in 2016, during which I have received training on many different topics including investigatory meetings, our rights as pharmacists, and the importance of member involvement. I also served as a delegate for the 2018 UNAC convention, attended Pharmacists Lobby Day, and participated in community service projects.

This year I am serving as a contract specialist. I have empowered pharmacists to solve issues directly with their managers, led investigatory meetings, and been a valuable resource for pharmacists to become more knowledgeable about their contract. In April I was appointed as Steward Coordinator North. In this capacity I have focused on strengthening communication with all our members and fostering strong, united stewards. I feel that my journey as an officer has only just begun. I look forward to continuing to inspire pharmacists to speak up for their rights and to advocate for our profession, especially with upcoming contract negotiations.

Tricia Ornelas
Kaiser Riverside Registered Nurses-Union of Healthcare Professionals

My name is Tricia Ornelas. New to Kaiser, in 2015 I started to take a strong interest in our UNAC contract. Committed to learning and enforcing the contract, I applied for the 2016 Contract Specialist position. After completing my year as contract specialist I continued my union experience as Vice President for the Riverside UNAC Affiliate from 2017-2019. My leadership experience as an officer has assisted me in being successful as an affiliate officer when attending fact findings and negotiating investigations when managers want to proceed with the corrective action process. I negotiate, educate, and enforce Just Culture to ensure that our members are treated fairly. My fellow UNAC members, we are in a crucial battle as we enter negotiations for our next contract. COVID-19 has brought many challenges and Kaiser will attempt to use this pandemic to take away many negotiated benefits due to financial loses. I will continue to passionately advocate for others and fight for the benefits we have worked so hard for. I will empower and motivate our members to use our contract language to enforce their rights as UNAC members. Please vote for me for KRRN-UHCP Secretary.

I can say with certainty that those which had unions have been better run, organized, the pay is better and have better patient satisfaction scores. Unions are an essential way to ensure fair and equitable workplaces and i am happy to be involved with UNAC and continue to represent our brothers and sisters.
