Peter Sidhu, RN
UNAC/UHCP Executive Vice President

Candidate Statement

2012, I joined the staff of UNAC/UHCP as the inaugural Staff Representative for SCNSC and KPMWON. By 2014, I had taken on the role of staff representative for Kaiser Woodland Hills, where I spearheaded the Safe Staffing campaign and added 75 new full-time positions.

2015, I enhanced my negotiating skills by assisting the Saint Francis bargaining team. I further honed these abilities by attending Cornell University’s program in labor relations, focusing on drafting collective bargaining agreements.

In 2018, Bill Rouse entrusted me to lead SCNSC Bargaining. I leveraged the opportunity to engage with our membership and collaborated with UNAC/UHCP’s communication department to deliver daily video updates, which the employer closely monitors. This experience culminated in my most significant challenge yet: co-leading SHARP San Diego bargaining.

Elected as the UNAC/UHCP State Treasurer in 2020, I implemented structural changes, including the launch of the UNAC/UHCP app, migrating affiliates to teams for improved communication, and initiating the online grievance program for real-time staffing issue data and safety mechanisms for healthcare workers. Additionally, I was elected NUHHCE Nursing Vice President, working to revive the United Nurses Congress for a national nursing voice.

My tenure saw significant achievements in addressing staffing challenges. As co-chair of the Alliance National Staffing Committee bargaining, I helped draft groundbreaking staffing committee language. I led healthcare workers to rally in Sacramento to support UNAC/UHCP’s five-year plan for better staffing.

In 2022, elected as the UNAC/UHCP Executive Vice President, I concentrated on combating the persistent staffing shortage. I supported rallies, actions, rounds in facilities, and meetings with elected officials to gain backing for our ongoing ballot initiatives for improved staffing. I also testified in a landmark case, resulting in an over $40 million settlement for a nurse.
