This course is tailored for healthcare professionals to understand the impact of emotional intelligence on patient care and team dynamics. In this course, participants will explore the unique challenges within the healthcare setting and develop skills to navigate emotionally charged situations. Through practical examples and active participation, learners will delve into key components such as self-awareness, self-management, active listening, empathy, and recognizing others’ emotions that will foster positive interpersonal relationships with patients, patient families, and the health care team.


  1. Understand the Significance of Emotional Intelligence:
    – Explore the rationale behind emotional intelligence as an essential factor in effective collaboration and working with others and examine how emotional intelligence impacts the delivery of compassionate and patient-centered care.
  2. Apply the Stop-Challenge-Choose Method:
    – Examine how self-awareness and self-management contribute to emotional intelligence, particularly in the Stop-Challenge-Choose method.
  3. Enhance Communication Skills:
    – Investigate how active listening, empathy, and recognizing others’ emotions impact conversations and influence outcomes.
  4. De-escalate Emotionally Charged Situations:
    – Utilize intent and impact conversations as a practical tool to de-escalate emotionally charged situations and enhance overall communication effectiveness, leading to improved teamwork, reduced stress, and improved patient care.
  5. Promote Collaboration through Emotional Intelligence:
    – Discuss and analyze how emotional intelligence catalyzes increased collaboration, team cohesion, and positive workplace dynamics.
