Kaiser bargaining continued at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, where it became clear that many Kaiser managers are not familiar with the national agreement. Fortunately, many of our UNAC/UHCP and AHCU bargaining and leadership members were involved with negotiating it from the ground up and use it every day in our worksites.
Both the Operational Effectiveness and the Partnership subgroups engaged in tough conversations and made substantial progress.
“The National Agreement has great language on staffing and backfill, but it’s scattered throughout the contract. We’re going to move it all into one place, so it’s easily referenced, and work on a process for accountability to it in every Kaiser site where Alliance members work.” –Charmaine Morales, RN, UNAC/UHCP Executive Vice President, Labor Co-Lead in Operational Effectiveness Subgroup
“In the Partnership subgroup, we actually modeled Partnership behaviors for management to help them better understand it. Now we’re working on a plan to train middle and upper management as well as frontline staff throughout Kaiser in LMP.” –Nancy Rouse, CNM, KPMWON President, Partnership Subgroup
When bargaining resumes in Orange County the subgroups will continue to work on addressing our serious staffing and backfill issues, and the Economics subgroup will continue discussing wages and benefits.
