A union may not regulate the contents of campaign literature it is asked to distribute and may not require that it be permitted to read the literature before distribution. The union may not censor campaign literature in any way, even if the literature includes derogatory remarks about other candidates. A union’s contention that mailing certain campaign literature may constitute libel does not justify a refusal to distribute the literature since the union is under a legal duty to distribute the material.
Officer Candidate Biography
Lauren Corona, RN
Candidate PMRNA Secretary
The Union Secretary is a role that requires someone who is organized, engaging, empowering and transparent in the day-to-day operations of PMRNA. In my six months as Stewardship Coordinator I have had the opportunity to learn the roles and responsibilities required of Union Secretary. I believe that the tasks in which I have been engaged will provide a smooth transition into the role as Secretary. Identifying and bridging gaps in current systems and processes will offer executive officers time to proactively engage with, and represent, members. As secretary remaining up-to-date on ongoing issues within in the organization; developing a succession plan; collaborating with the executive officer team, and the state office in our union rebuild are targets on my radar. I am a fierce advocate for members. I am knowledgeable in the intricacies and nuances of both the VA system, and the union organization. My goal is to keep detailed records of union business, organize and empower union members to be engaged within the organization, and to work side by side with executive officers as we lead the union forward.
