PSP Bonus On the Way: At Least 100% Payout

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, UNAC/UHCP and fellow members of the Alliance of Health Care Unions called on Kaiser Permanente to revisit Performance Sharing Plan (PSP) goals bargained under pre-pandemic conditions.

Given the unprecedented pandemic, redeployments of Trust-funded staff, the inability of many unit-based teams (UBTs) to meet, and even bad-faith negotiations in one region, we had called on KP to convert the PSP to a guaranteed full payout. As a result, partner unions will receive PSP for at least 100% performance payout. KP also extended certain COVID-19 benefits.

Regions and individuals performing higher than 100% will receive the higher performance payout based on their plan’s performance. The payment will be paid in March on schedule with the regular PSP payment cycle. Additional details are forthcoming.

A Word About the “Hero Bonus”

As we have announced, the PSP guaranteed payout, which we had been advocating for months, was agreed to by Kaiser Permanente. The payout applies across KP, to the Alliance of Health Care Unions, as well as to the Coalition unions.

Unfortunately, the Coalition announced the program in a way that appears that it only applies to Coalition members. That is not the case. While the Coalition is using different words – “Hero Bonus” –the bonus they are announcing is the SAME bonus and the same agreement we announced Friday. Kaiser Permanente will also be making special payouts to unrepresented employees and members of other unions. Both the Alliance and the Coalition had been calling for this agreement, and we are happy to say we all won it.
