Healthcare workers experience stress, anxiety, burnout, and depression, among many other challenges. These challenges are associated with an increase in the risk of alcohol and drug use and addiction. Join us as we look at addiction signs and symptoms, effects, prevention, and resources for support and assistance. We are here for you!
Objectives
By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of addiction.
• Define steps to help prevent addiction.
• Describe resources available to help heal an addiction.
Speaker Bio
Dr. Kelly Austin is the Vice President of KLA Risk Consulting’s Hospital Workplace Violence division. She and her team provide workplace violence consulting and training for hospitals (including ambulatory services). Dr. Austin is the principal author of KLA Risk’s Hospital Workplace Violence Protocol™. The Protocol includes KLA’s proprietary hospital-specific and evidence-based workplace violence training (Hospital Assault Response and Prevention or HARP™), a comprehensive workplace violence plan gap analysis process, an employee assault survey and ongoing consulting.
Dr. Austin is passionate about helping healthcare workers live as safe and healthy as possible. In addition to workplace violence, she provides educational session on bullying, addiction, suicide, PTSD and overall mental health, among other topics. Dr. Austin is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).
