UNAC/UHCP Executive Director Joe Guzynski is an accomplished union negotiator and transformative leader who guides the strategic direction of the union as set by union leadership.
Joe was instrumental in several major bargaining campaigns at UNAC/UHCP, and he oversees bargaining strategy across the union. UNAC/UHCP has grown under his leadership, adding thousands of new members since 2019. Joe has served as a media spokesperson for our union, appearing in Modern Healthcare and Fierce Healthcare among other publications.
Joe began his career as a staff representative for Michigan Council 25, an AFSCME affiliate. His career progressed rapidly, with Joe servicing AFSCME Wisconsin Council 40 and then becoming an AFSCME Area Field Representative. He joined AFSCME senior leadership as the Western Regional Director for four years before moving to UNAC/UHCP. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Government from University of Detroit Mercy, a Master of Arts in Labor and Industrial Relations from Wayne State University, and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School.
