We Did It! 22,000 Kaiser Members Win Groundbreaking Contract

WE DID IT!

UNAC/UHCP and our partners in the Alliance of Health Care Unions reached a tentative national agreement with Kaiser Permanente management in coordinated bargaining on Saturday afternoon, September 22.

The tentative national agreement was approved by the Alliance Common Issues Committee this afternoon, and will be presented to an Alliance bargaining delegate conference next Saturday, September 29, for final approval.

With the tentative national agreement, our economic and non-economic settlements reached in local bargaining, which achieved historic gains for patient care, will move forward towards ratification.

Plans will be announced soon for ratification vote meetings where all members will have the opportunity to see what we won at the bargaining table and vote on the national and local agreements. (Click here for the full schedule of ratification vote meetings.)

The blue book’s tentative agreement creates history by moving Kaiser staffing ratios into the contract. This will make UNAC/UHCP the only nurses’ union to have better-than-state nurse-to-patient ratios embedded in our contract.

Another huge win for patient care in the blue book: Just Culture language, to protect patients and health care professionals by formalizing a speak-up and learning culture.

We will release summary details of the tentative national agreement later this week. All our bargaining teams unanimously recommend a Yes vote for both the national and local agreements.

Come to a ratification meeting to learn the full details of all the agreements. Members of the negotiating teams will be there to answer questions and engage in a full discussion.
