A union may not regulate the contents of campaign literature it is asked to distribute and may not require that it be permitted to read the literature before distribution. The union may not censor campaign literature in any way, even if the literature includes derogatory remarks about other candidates. A union’s contention that mailing certain campaign literature may constitute libel does not justify a refusal to distribute the literature since the union is under a legal duty to distribute the material.

Officer Candidate Statements

Carla Herring, RN
Candidate PMRNA Representative Coordinator

As a dedicated registered nurse with over 25 years of experience in the Veterans Hospital system, I am honored to announce my candidacy for the position of Union Representative Coordinator at Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Hospital. My commitment to serving those who have bravely served our country has fueled my passion for nursing and advocacy throughout my career.

In 2015 I served as a Rep Coordinator Union Officer for four years. I have proudly served as a union member, where I gained invaluable insights into the importance of collective bargaining and representation. During my time on the negotiation team, I played an active role in crafting a contract that spans over 25 years, ensuring that the voices of our nurses are heard and their rights protected.

My primary goal as Union Representative Coordinator is to fight for the rights of our nurses, ensuring fair treatment and safe working conditions. I believe that when we stand together as a united front, we can effect meaningful change and enhance the workplace environment for all.

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I look forward to the opportunity to serve and represent you as your Union Representative Coordinator.

  • I advocate for our military veterans, ensuring they receive compassionate care. I believe in our shared mission to support those who have served and continue to be affected by their sacrifices.
  • As a former union vice president, contract negotiations, representing colleagues, and improving workplace conditions were and continue to be my passion.
  • As chair of the Emergency Room Shared Governance Committee, I lead initiatives to enhance staff collaboration and patient care standards. I actively pursue growth opportunities, including the EBP Immersion course, to enhance my leadership effectiveness.

Moving the Union Forward

As a candidate for Representative Coordinator, I aim to create an inclusive environment where nurses’ voices are heard, and patient care is enhanced through innovative solutions. I bring a blend of clinical expertise, advocacy, and leadership experience to drive positive change for our union members.

Nastaishia O’Howell, RN
Candidate PMRNA Vice President

Dear PMRNA Members,

I am excited to announce my candidacy for the PMRNA Vice President position. Serving as your Secretary for the past 3 years, I worked tirelessly both on and off the clock to strengthen our Union and secure better benefits and protections for our RNs and NPs. As a Loma Linda VA Registered Nurse, I’ve worked inpatient, outpatient, and floated to different areas, so I understand many of the unique challenges faced by our nurses at our CBOCs, ACC, and Main.

During my tenure as PMRNA Secretary, I played a pivotal role in bringing both our Constitution and Collective Bargaining Agreement into the future and ensuring they reflect our needs and priorities.

As your Vice President, I can do even more! I will remain a steadfast advocate, with an enhanced ability to uphold our governing documents and hold all who are bound by them accountable. I will be your listening ear, thoroughly investigating the concerns of every member and giving those concerns a proper voice.

I thank you in advance for your support!

Sincerely,
Nastaishia O’Howell
