Bargaining Update: June 7-8, 2021
Our UTSC bargaining team engaged in a vigorous discussion with Kaiser Permanente (KP) over the past two days regarding schedule utilization and “operational flexibility.”
KP management introduced the idea of cutting our patient management time and our bargaining team strongly objected to the idea. We know how important that time is to our daily work and the care we provide.
The team also discussed the use of Outpatient Staffing/Workload Committee meetings which are currently in our contract but underused. We pushed for the meetings to be implemented as already written in the contract. Management presented a joint communication from 2017 around schedule utilization and requested its inclusion in the contract. We did not agree to do so.
There was significant conversation around Access to Physical Therapy (APT) as it relates to schedule utilization.
The team added several new bargaining dates through early August:
- June 23
- July 13
- July 14
- July 21
- July 22
- August 5
- August 6
We expect to take up economics when we return to table later this month.
