Steward Training Is Virtual
UNAC/UHCP steward training is going virtual for the remainder of the year. Starting in August, all UNAC/UHCP stewards at Kaiser Permanente can attend one virtual two-hour training online each month. While UNAC/UHCP has a long history in doing in-person steward trainings, please note there are some key differences when training virtually.
This UNAC/UHCP-negotiated benefit will be in effect until October 1, with possible renewal depending on the COVID-19 situation. The times listed below are therefore confirmed through September and pending for the remainder of 2020. Please note there will be no steward training in the month of November. We anticipate continuing virtual training through December.
New Process for Virtual Steward Training
1. Select one of the four steward training options for the month
- Be sure you select a day and time when you are not scheduled to work
- Each training for a particular month will have the same program
- We will offer four opportunities per month to attend a virtual steward training
2. Submit your request to your manager for time off for steward training
- In order to be paid by Kaiser Permanente for attending steward training, you are required to get pre-approval before your register
- You may still attend steward training if your manager has not approved it but it will be unpaid time
- Contact your affiliate officer if manager does not approve
- Approval will only be given for attendance outside of scheduled work hours
3. Go to memberlink.unacuhcp.org to register
- Find the options to register on MemberLink under the Quick Links section on the MemberLink homepage and select one date/time option
- Stewards must have a 2020 UNAC/UHCP KP steward petition on file to see the registration options inside MemberLink
- Registration is through the Zoom platform
- You must register in advance on Zoom in order to attend; you can use a free Zoom account to participate in UNAC/UHCP steward training
- Save your confirmation email with login information

4. Attend steward training on the day you registered
- Participate on Zoom from your computer at home; you’ll need a computer to get the full steward training experience
- You will log on to the Zoom platform using the information you received via email on the day you registered
- Plan to join ten minutes early in case you have trouble getting onto the system
- UNAC/UHCP stewards must attend the full two hours because KP will receive proof of attendance
- Reimbursement is at straight time
Steward training is an opportunity to reconnect with UNAC/UHCP leadership, staff representatives, local officers and fellow stewards.
