UNAC/UHCP: Advancing Social Justice

Fighting for Healthcare Access
At UNAC/UHCP, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a full, healthy life. We work to ensure access to healthcare for all.
We oppose policies that limit access to care, especially for vulnerable communities.
We also recognize that housing, safety, employment, nutritious food, and clean environments directly impact health. That’s why we support policies that address these social determinants of health.
Supporting Social Justice Initiatives
We are proud to have a Racial and Social Justice Committee and have established a scholarship for Black and African-American students pursuing careers in healthcare.
We partner with organizations like Highly Favored: A Blessing to Others to support unhoused individuals and provide resources to those in need.
We have also spoken out publicly in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and continue to stand for justice and equality.
Addressing Systemic Inequalities
We know that social justice issues and workplace conditions go hand-in-hand in health care.
We advocate for fair pay, safe staffing levels, and respectful treatment of healthcare professionals because better working conditions lead to better patient care.
We are committed to creating inclusive, equitable workplaces where all caregivers feel valued and have opportunities to grow and lead.
Taking Action for Justice
We have taken a strong stand against harmful cuts to Medicaid that hurt children, seniors, and low-income families.
We support policies that address the mental health challenges healthcare workers face, including burnout and moral injury.
We continue to push for solutions to hospital staffing shortages and fight for safety improvements that protect both patients and care teams.
2020 UNAC/UHCP Facebook Live Event: Take a Knee in Solidarity
In 2020, UNAC/UHCP held a Facebook Live Event video featuring our members and staff showing solidarity with a community healing from brutality and racism. During the event, we asked our community to join us in expressing solidarity with photos of them kneeling in peaceful protest, especially following the murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020.
