Communications Specialist
Based in City of Industry, CA
OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and implementing the Union’s internal and external communication needs.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write, design, and produce flyers, email blasts, website posts, mailers, and other member communications in conjunction with the representation, organizing, political, member engagement, and community benefit work of the Union
- Design social media, email, and web graphics
- Film and edit high-quality videos featuring health care professionals
- File documents; prepare and send mass membership mailings; data entry
- Tell the union’s story via social media, including collaborating with co-workers to build social media campaigns around key issues
- Responsible for online advocacy campaigns
- Write and disseminate press releases as part of a media plan
- Build relationships with online and offline media, pitch reporters, and author op-eds
- Research, write, and message news of the Union
- Attend biennial UNAC/UHCP convention
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- B.A. or B.S., in relevant field or background in labor movement and/or progressive movement.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to write quickly without errors
- Strong oral communications skills with the proven ability to get his/her organization’s viewpoint reflected in print, radio, or television coverage
- Thorough understanding of grammar rules and AP stylebook and guidelines
- Ability to work well independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
- Strong design aesthetic, visual discernment, technical acuity, editing, and writing skills
- Highly internet and technology proficient, including, but not limited to Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, mass email systems, and website content management systems. Ability and willingness to learn additional technology as necessary to fulfill job duties
- Sound interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and interact effectively with affiliate leadership and union members
- Salaried position; may require nonstandard work hours and/or weekend and holiday work.
- Some travel may be required; current California Driver’s License
- Background in labor movement and/or progressive movements
- Minimum three years of videography and editing experience with professional work samples preferred
- Bilingual and fully proficient in speaking and writing in Spanish preferred
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Salary $79.303/hr – $98.609/hr. We provide a comprehensive package including medical and dental benefits for employee and dependents, optical allowance for employee and dependents, life insurance for employee, defined benefit pension plan, 401(k) and flexible spending accounts, auto allowance, education program which includes tuition/course reimbursement and paid time off to take approved courses, vacation, sick leave, holidays, flexible personal time off, plus time off between Christmas day and New Year’s day. This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with United Nurses Staff Union (UNSU). Salaries and benefits are subject to change based on future Collective Bargaining Agreements.
