What is a Contract Specialist?
A Contract Specialist is a union-selected leader whose job is to help members understand, use, and enforce their contract at work. This role is part of the National Agreement with Kaiser Permanente.
Why this role exists
Union stewards often have to do many things at once—handling workplace issues, representing members, and helping with union programs.
The Contract Specialist role was created to:
- Take on the technical side of the contract
- Give stewards more time to organize and support members
- Make sure the contract is applied fairly and consistently everywhere
What a Contract Specialist does
Contract Specialists:
- Explain what the contract means and how it applies to real situations
- Help members and stewards navigate workplace issues and grievances
- Provide training and guidance so more members understand their rights
- Work with union leaders and HR to resolve problems and improve workplace practices
