UNAC/UHCP Members Overwhelmingly Ratify New Kaiser Contracts!

New agreements include staffing protections, patient care standards, historic wage increases, and contract alignment including new units

After months of negotiations across California and Hawaiʻi, UNAC/UHCP members have ratified new contracts with Kaiser Permanente. Approved by a supermajority of members, the agreements take effect immediately and run through September 30, 2029. For the first time in more than 20 years, all UNAC/UHCP Kaiser contracts share the same expiration date.

What the Contracts Include
Negotiations opened in March 2025 with consistent member priorities: safe staffing, patient access, and the ability to practice at the full scope of their training. The ratified contracts address those priorities directly.

Key provisions:

  • Stronger patient safety and staffing protections
  • Improved patient access and continuity of care
  • More time for caregivers to spend with patients
  • Clearer communication standards
  • The largest wage increases in UNAC/UHCP history

How We Got Here
Many of these gains were built long before the bargaining table. Over the years, members filed staffing objection forms, organized petitions, participated in informational pickets, and kept up steady advocacy between contracts. When negotiations stalled, members took action—including historic strikes—to press for movement. That sustained engagement is what made these outcomes possible.

Ratification is a significant milestone, but the work doesn’t stop here. Enforcing these contracts and holding Kaiser accountable will take the same involvement that got us here. Thank you to every member who participated, showed up, and stood together.
