UNAC/UHCP Earns First-Place PRSA-LA Award for 2025 Kaiser Bargaining Campaign
UNAC/UHCP has received a first-place award from the Public Relations Society of America Los Angeles Chapter (PRSA-LA) for its 2025 Kaiser Permanente Bargaining Campaign.
The recognition was presented during the 2026 PRSA-LA PRism Awards on October 28 in Los Angeles. The annual awards recognize outstanding achievements in public relations, strategic campaigns and communications across the region.
For UNAC/UHCP, the award recognizes more than a communications campaign. It reflects the thousands of registered nurses and health care professionals whose voices, stories and collective action defined one of the union’s largest bargaining campaigns.
Throughout 2025, more than 31,000 UNAC/UHCP members at Kaiser Permanente across California and Hawaiʻi organized around priorities including safe staffing, fair pay, retirement security and a stronger voice in patient care. The campaign combined bargaining updates, member stories, videos, social media, workplace actions, community engagement and media outreach to keep members informed and make the experiences of frontline health care professionals visible.
At every stage, the campaign centered the people directly affected by the issues at the bargaining table. Members spoke publicly about staffing, workloads, patient care and the realities they faced in their workplaces. They shared their experiences on social media, participated in workplace actions, joined bargaining as observers and stood together on picket lines.
The communications campaign was designed to amplify those voices—not replace them.
The first-place recognition from PRSA-LA highlights what can happen when strategic communications and member engagement work together. Strong graphics, videos and messaging helped tell the story, but the power behind the campaign came from members who were willing to show up, speak out and share what was happening in their workplaces.
PRSA-LA represents nearly 600 agency, in-house and independent public relations professionals and was founded in 1948 as one of PRSA’s first five chapters. Its PRism Awards recognize communications work from agencies, nonprofits, government institutions, corporations and other organizations across the Greater Los Angeles area.
For UNAC/UHCP, this award belongs to the members whose courage and participation made the campaign possible.
When members speak up, people take notice.
