Humans of UNAC/UHCP: Nerissa Dizon, RN
Honestly, I didn’t set out to make waves. I just needed a way to explain what I was doing. Back in 2014, I was brand new as a contract specialist, and no one really understood the newly-established role—not even the officers I worked with. So, when I went on rounds, I’d write little notes about what was going on. That was the start of my rounding messages.

“Honestly, I didn’t set out to make waves. I just needed a way to explain what I was doing. Back in 2014, I was brand new as a contract specialist, and no one really understood the newly-established role—not even the officers I worked with. So, when I went on rounds, I’d write little notes about what was going on. That was the start of my rounding messages.
“But things really shifted after I went through a tough time—writing became a way for me to process, to heal—and eventually, to support others going through the same thing.
“In 2023, I wrote a short piece about meal and rest breaks. I wanted members to know their rights. By the end of the year, it had made a big impact—people were finally claiming missed breaks, and Kaiser really felt it financially. But the point wasn’t to hit back—it was about empowering people with knowledge.
“Now, when I write monthly messages, it’s always with a goal in mind. Lately, it’s been all about getting folks ready—mentally and financially—for 2025. I try to keep it real. I don’t sugarcoat things because I want members to be prepared. Because when you’re ready, really ready, you have power.
“I always say, ‘Time is a gift.’ It’s something I learned during my own journey. With time came strength, wisdom, patience, and humility—my four big life lessons. And now, I try to bring that same energy to my messages.
“I’ll keep writing. Sharing what I’ve learned. Helping folks feel seen, supported, and ready for what’s ahead.”
